I’ve been working with glass as an artistic medium since 2007 and, as the name “Zapico Glass” may have hinted, its a medium that holds great importance for me. Learning the process over these last 15+ years has allowed me to really appreciate the process as well as understand the material and it’s creative potential as a medium. However, I have also found that the conceptual limitations of glassblowing to be frustrating at times. In order to push beyond these boundaries, I have turned to my lifelong passion for drawing and painting as a source of inspiration.

Dedicated to expanding the concept of canvas

My goal with this work is to convey the struggles and triumphs of the modern experience and to prove that glass art can be so much more than mere elements of interior design, more than just decorative or functional objects. It can be a powerful method of communication, story telling, and even a means of predicting the future.

Both paint and glass can be potent forms of expression on their own. By infusing the two together we tap into a new range of bold and exciting aesthetics. When the daring colors of the paint meet the often rigid craft of the glass the viewer is left with a range of striking displays where every angle and surface becomes it’s own piece of art battling for the viewer’s attention.

The figure on this piece is from my “Portrait of a Tweaker” series. Wild disheveled portraits juxtaposed on beautiful glass vessels.

This piece is a recreation of the crucifixtion where the GOP is found in the role of the Romans and the DNC are in the role of Judas

In this piece we view the main character looking upwards, distracted by the disaster on her mind, shown as a dumpster fire. As we rotate the vase we see the character has an outstretched hand, as if asking for help, but instead help we see another hand thrusting a knife through her outstretched palm. So we turn the vase further to see who is committing this act of violence only to eventually find that it was the main character herself.

Politricks- drawing attention to Nestle’s use of United States water and the US government giving away the peoples’ water for free to be sold back to them in a bottle that never breaks down.

An homage to mothers everywhere- to the impossibly long list of responsibilities they have and to their steadfast determination.

A junky for oil, tying off with yellow ribbon to support the troops as a proxy and collector for America’s addiction to oil.

An homage to the villains of the opioid epidemic who made billions off of the knowledge that they could bait users through the medical system and escape justice forever.

The 1% have exploited and stolen the vast majority of wealth from all of society. While they spend and waste money lavishly in displays reminiscent of juvenile pissing contents, the rest of the world begs for scraps.

Young minds are being radicalized by right wing media influencers who prey on them as easy targets by appealing to their emotions and lack of world experience. They are manipulated, armed, and directed to commit acts of violence in the name of nationalism. “Kyle Rittenhouse and Fox News”

A pun and some fun

A commentary on the white washing of American history and the dying but strong grip that white nationalist America has on this country
