Silica Robotica
When it comes to more abstract glass concepts, one of my favorite bodies of work are my sculpted glass robots- the “Silica Robotica” series! This work draws upon my childhood fascination with science fiction and toys but underneath the fun and quirky designs lies a more profound statement. In real life, here on earth, robots are designed with an extraordinary amount of precision so that each specific model is capable of fulfilling the very specific purpose that it was built for.
That right there, purpose, that is something we all recognize human beings struggle with. Finding purpose. Which begs the question; if we happen to find a purpose… Do we lose a part of our humanity? Do we lose a part of what makes us inherently human? So I create these robots that serve no functional purpose beyond their own existence, thus giving them some humanity of their own.
